Curriculum Intent

Curriculum Intent Statement:

We aim to broaden students’ horizons by giving them knowledge of the Francophone and Hispanophone worlds and instilling in them a desire to travel. Cross curricular links are made to history and geography as part of this focus.

The curriculum is ambitious for all learners and is sequenced to give students’ a progressive knowledge of the language they are studying. There is a focus on the three pillars of language: grammar, phonics and vocabulary and with the curriculum’s spiral nature, both concepts and contents are revisited regularly.

Via our first-quality teaching and bespoke resources, we enable all students, including those with SEND, to access the curriculum. Lessons focus on creating an inclusive environment where students are comfortable taking risks, most notably via phonics and spoken language. Confidence and improvements in fluency are what our students consider to be the barometer of success in the subject.

By the end of their language studies, pupils will have developed the knowledge, skills, and resilience necessary to communicate with increasing spontaneity. This prepares them for further study and for life in a global community.
