BRS has been honoured with the prestigious LiveSimply Award.
This recognition comes as a result of pupils remarkable efforts to live simply, sustainably, and in solidarity with the world’s most impoverished communities. Presented by CAFOD, an overseas development charity, the LiveSimply Award acknowledges the exceptional projects undertaken by our school, highlighting the importance of caring for both people and the planet. It recognises the positive impact that these actions have had on our school community, as well as our outreach work to the local and global communities.
The LiveSimply Award was earned following a thorough assessment, during which our pupils and staff showcased the various initiatives we have undertaken to demonstrate our commitment to living simply, sustainably, and in solidarity with the world’s poorest communities. The report highlighted several commendable aspects, including the successful bid for funding to establish a prayer and eco garden. Notably, the students took the lead in designing and presenting the project to East Midlands Airport. Additionally, our DT department created beautiful outdoor stations of the cross, some of which were shared with a visiting primary school, demonstrating our desire to impact others positively.
The report praised our school’s efforts to support the local community through food bank collections and assistance to residents in a care home. Furthermore, their commitment to CAFOD and the global community was highly appreciated. The students’ understanding of the relationship between their faith and the need to protect the planet and support fellow human beings was highlighted in the report. The report highlighted the school’s introduction of recycling facilities and the eco-conscious actions taken by the CAFOD Club, emphasising our school’s dedication to sustainable practices.
Siobhan Farnell, the CAFOD LiveSimply Award Assessor, expressed her delight in confirming that Blessed Robert Sutton Catholic Voluntary Academy is the first secondary school in the Nottingham Diocese to achieve the LiveSimply Award. She commended the pupils and staff for wholeheartedly embracing the principles of living simply, sustainably, and in solidarity with the world’s poorest communities, acknowledging their actions as truly transformative for their school, local community, and global neighbours.
